
Ice Stupa Competition 2021
On the occasion of World Environment Day, the final results of this year’s Ice Stupa Competition 2021-22 were announced at Kulum Village in collaboration with the District Administration & Agriculture Department, Leh and Kulum villagers association. The Chief Guest of the function was ex DFO Mr. Mohd Abbas and other dignitaries: Mr. Zahoor Hussain (Agriculture Department Head, Kharu), Mr. Mohd Wani and Mr. Abid Lone (Zonal and Branch Manager, HDFC Bank) and Mr. Jaivir Singh (Advisor to Chairman, PwC) were also present as our Guests of Honour who blessed the occasion with their presence.
Winning teams of the 4th Ice Stupa competition are:
– First Prize of Rs 4 Lakhs was distributed between the teams of Tarchit and Igoo village teams for building Ice Stupa’s that conserved 12 Million Litres of water each.
– Second Prize of Rs 1 Lakh was awarded to the Apathi village team for building Ice Stupas that conserved 4.5 Million Litres of water each.
– and the Third Prize of Rs 50,000 each was distributed between the teams of Sanku and Kulum village teams for building Ice Stupas that conserved 3.75 Million Litres of water each.
In addition to the above, the Ice Stupa Project also acknowledged the other 13 participating teams for their marvellous efforts with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each:

The total prize money of 9.25 lakhs has been given by Sonam Wangchuk from his personal funds accrued from the various awards that he has won to promote enterprise and entrepreneurship in the youth of Ladakh so that they can begin to take stewardship of their eco-systems through local innovations and interventions like Ice Stupa artificial glacier.
