General Information

1. Key details of the Fellowship:

  • HIAL invites applications for an 13-month immersive residential program exclusively designed for Ladakhi youth.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Any graduate / post graduates or unemployed youth from Ladakh
  • Duration: 13 months
  • Start date: 9th June 2025
  • Location: Phyang, Leh-UT Ladakh
  • Funding/Benefits: A stipend of ₹7,000 per month and a completion certificate will be provided to fellows who successfully clear the passing criteria as per the assessment rules and regulations of HIAL.
  • Incidental expenses: Rs.6000 per month
  • Scholarship Assistance: Merit-based scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of HIAL's Admissions Committee

2. Learning Objectives of the Ladakh Fellowship:

  • Revitalize Traditional Livelihoods – Understand and apply modern technology to enhance ancestral livelihoods while preserving cultural heritage.
  • Develop Future-Ready Skills – Gain knowledge of emerging technologies and their application in creating sustainable livelihoods.
  • Apply Hands-on Learning – Work on real-world projects and challenges to develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and innovation skills.
  • Explore Career Pathways – Receive mentorship and exposure to various career opportunities in government, private sector, NGOs, entrepreneurship, and social work.

  • Foster Sustainability – Learn and implement sustainable practices suitable for Ladakh's unique ecosystem.

3. Expected Outcomes of the Ladakh Fellowship:

4. Ladakh Fellowship students will also get to be a part of the HILLs Fellowship modules:

Compulsory Modules:

Business, Finance, Communications, Life Skills, Human Resource Management and Research Methodology.

5. Application Process

Fill up the Google Form online. Submit it by the applicable deadline.

Submission Guidelines: After completing the form, click on submit. An acknowledgement will be generated automatically

6. Selection procedure:

  • After the first stage of screening of the Google form applications, shortlisted fellows will be called for interviews (online/offline), which may be followed by a second round of interview, if needed.

7. Fellow are expected to:

  • Uphold academic integrity
  • Be regular and punctual, and show respect for HIAL's culture, peers, faculty, and the community.
  • Prioritize cooperation over competition, work for mountain communities' well-being, understand local challenges, actively engage in solutions, and strive for self-awareness.
  • HIAL follows sustainable living practices, including the use of local composting toilets, serving local food, and promoting the judicious use of electricity and water. To foster a sense of community, fellows are also assigned responsibilities such as cooking, waste segregation, cleaning, water duty, etc. Only those who can adapt to this living environment are encouraged to apply.

8. Examination Policy:

Fellows will be graded through formative and summative exams. Formative tests will be ongoing and weekly/ monthly/ periodic and summative will be at the end of the course. This will be a combination of written and oral exams, project works and Experiential Learning Project (ELP).

9. Code of Conduct:

  • Anti-discrimination: No discrimination based on race, gender, religion, caste, nationality, sexual orientation, age, or disability. Report complaints to the programme team immediately.
  • Sexual Harassment and Violence: Safe environment for all members; strict policies on harassment and violence. Report complaints to the programme team and student coordinators. Violators face disciplinary action, and incidents will be kept confidential.
  • Anti-ragging: Zero tolerance for ragging; dismissal from the programme if found guilty. Report any incidents immediately. Strict confidentiality maintained for complaints.
  • Honour Code and Ethical Conduct:
    • Practice academic integrity.
    • Provide accurate personal background information.
    • Act lawfully; unlawful activities will result in expulsion.
    • Refrain from cheating, plagiarism, and misconduct.
