Overview:
Learners gain the knowledge and skills to design and build sustainable buildings for cold mountainous regions. Environmental friendly, carbon neutral and innovative sources of energy like solar power and geo-thermal heat pumps play a crucial role in design and orientation. Earthquake safety, which has become an issue of great concern in mountain communities, is studied and ensured. Learners research techniques, materials, and designs to build passive solar heated spaces while promoting and working with locally and abundantly available eco-friendly materials like clay and stone. Under the guidance of experts and architects, learners apply their knowledge towards the construction of the HIAL campus as well as projects taken for various private and government clients that serve as the Live Labs of this Centre.
