Overview:
The primary objective of this project is to analyze the frost line, the depth at which the ground experiences freezing temperatures. This information would be crucial in determining the optimal depth for laying water pipes to ensure a consistent water supply to households, even during the coldest months. To increase the replicability of the findings across the entire Ladakh region, Location was identified on the basis of altitude, facing direction and accessibility. Placement of temperature sensor probes at different depths ranging from 0.5m to 2m. Data collection was performed for the entire year and more to understand the temperature variation for seasons, altitudes and site orientations. Through a combination of sensor data and analysis, the project sought to provide valuable insights for efficient water infrastructure development, shallow Geothermal energy extractions, Optimum Root cellar depth digging in the region. The findings would have practical applications for improving the quality of life and resilience of communities in Ladakh.
